FLEX SHADE

Flex Shade is a responsive light object created from a single flexible circuit board. Its design celebrates both hardware and software, and the physical and behavioral presence of electronic craft. Created by Yoav Reches and Nan Zhao, I ran the Shenzhen-side manufacturing operation and worked closely with the factory to ensure the final product came out as envisioned.

Normally, flexible circuit boards are hidden inside wearable electronics products such as cameras and phones. With Flex Shade, the unique quality of this technology is presented in its bare state as a carrier of electrical components, as well as a reflector and body of light. Flex Shade is aware of its surrounding and expresses itself to connect to its environment and user.
